‘A woman should be two things: who and what she wants.’ I can always rely on Coco Chanel for some inspirational words. Today marks International Women’s Day 2020 and whilst the day reminds us we still have a long way to go when it comes to an equal world for women around the globe, it’s also the perfect day to recognise how far we have already come, celebrate those we admire and to reflect on ourselves too.
As I approach 30 this year, I am at an age where I now really do feel like a woman and no longer a girl. I can honestly say that over the last decade, I’ve truly learnt to appreciate and understand the importance of having strong and secure relationships with women.
The women we surround ourselves with have a huge impact on us. They impact our lives, the way we view ourselves, the way we view others, our thoughts, our decisions and ultimately, our happiness; and so it’s incredibly important to nurture these relationships may it be with our family and friends or those we meet through work.
I want to be the kind of woman who promotes positivity and confidence to the women around me and champions their goals. I also want to be the kind of women to pursue my own goals and celebrate my own achievements no matter how big or small – because that’s okay too.
If you do just one thing today on International Women’s Day, take time to remember you are amazing and you hold that superpower to be who and what you want.
